Confidentiality in a Small City: Why Your Privacy Matters to Us

One of the things I hear most often from people in Bathurst is this:

“I’ve thought about counselling, but I’m worried about people knowing my business.”

And honestly? I completely get that. Living in a smaller city has so many great things about it — close community, familiar faces, that sense that people look out for one another. But when it comes to something as personal as therapy, it can also make people hesitate.

You might be thinking:

  • What if my practitioner knows someone I mention?

  • What if someone sees my car outside the office?

These are really normal worries. So, I want to talk a bit about how we handle confidentiality and what it means for you.

I’m Not Originally from Bathurst

One thing that sometimes helps people feel more at ease is knowing that I’m not from Bathurst originally. I don’t have long-standing family ties or a big social network here. That means when you come in for a session, I’m meeting you without any assumptions, history, or small-town connections.

For many clients, that adds an extra sense of privacy — knowing that the person you’re talking to isn’t connected to your world outside the office.

Your Privacy Is Always Protected

Confidentiality is the foundation of what we do. What you share in session stays in session — full stop. The only rare exceptions are if there’s a safety concern or something legally required, and we always talk about that clearly right from the start.

Even if I (or your practitioner) happen to know someone you’re talking about, that information never leaves the room. We don’t share names, stories, or details — not with family, not with friends, not with anyone.

Your story belongs to you.

You Deserve a Safe Space

Reaching out for help takes courage, and you deserve to feel completely safe when you do. My goal — and our goal at IronMind Wellness — is to make sure you know that what you say here stays here.

Whether you’re working through stress, trauma, relationships, or just trying to make sense of things, confidentiality is something we protect at all costs. You can speak freely, honestly, and without worry.

Because at the end of the day, your privacy isn’t just part of the job — it’s part of the trust we build together.
